Data Center Infrastructure Management (DCIM)

To effectively manage today's data centers, every organization needs a complete set of tools and solutions that provide specific capabilities in addition to intelligent building management systems (BMS), information technology service management (ITSM), financial management (DCFM), etc. These capabilities establish a connection between the two main layers of the data center (hardware resources management layer and information technology management layer) and provide management facilities to the user.

To understand DCIM in the data center, it is first necessary to have a proper understanding of the BMS system. A Building Management System (BMS) is a centralized system and a network of hardware and software that controls different systems of the data center, including the lighting system, fire alarm, security systems, etc. With the passage of time and further evolution of BMS, things like energy resource management, work process management, and event management were also added to it. This part of capabilities is called data center infrastructure management (DCIM). DCIM provides the user with an overview of system health and performance and allows monitoring to any desired level of detail for precise control of operations.
